PHOENIX (December 7, 2022) Retiring from 25 years on air shaping the Phoenix public radio and media landscape, local award-winning radio host Steve Goldstein isn’t signing off just yet. Save Democracy Arizona is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Goldstein as the organization’s new Executive Director.

“We are thankful to have Steve on board to help drive Save Democracy’s message. He’s been a longtime pillar for nonpartisan politics in Arizona, and he has a track record of breaking down complex issues with transparent delivery,” said Sarah Smallhouse, President, and Treasurer of Save Democracy.

Goldstein spent much of his career as the soundtrack of our morning, delivering news as a host and reporter for Phoenix’s NPR station KJZZ, where he was a driving force behind the outlet’s coverage of politics, elections, and public policy.

Goldstein will be the new host of the Save Democracy AZ podcast where he will invite guests to explore our current election system and alternatives that give all of the state's voters equal voice in choosing who will compete in the general election. His conversations will feature the most informed politicians, elected officials, scholars, and pundits. Episode one is available now.

“We are thrilled to have another Arizona leader’s voice echoing the need to address our broken primary system and aid us in finding better solutions for our state. We look forward to working with Steve,” said Ted Hinderaker, Vice President and Assistant Secretary for Save Democracy.

“I am excited to continue my work in this new capacity and direct my energy to improving our democracy. Since the age of four I’ve called Arizona home. I chose to get involved with the coalition because we share the same goals of making our state better for future generations. Arizona has a real opportunity for positive change. A real opportunity to create a more representative and inclusive election system where all voters are important, problem-solving is rewarded, and candidates are held accountable,” said Goldstein.

The organization’s board members include:

● Sarah Brown Smallhouse, President of the Thomas R Brown Foundations

● Don Budinger, Chairman of Rodel Foundation of Arizona

● Ted Hinderaker, of Hinderaker, Rauh and Weisman

● Si Schorr, Senior Partner Lewis Roca, Retired
